What's and Arthropod?

As you collect a creepy crawly bug for science, remember it has to be an arthropod and it has to be intact (un-damaged). Dead is ok though. Tad poles are not arthropods and neither are worms, so what is an arthropod? Let's have the Smithsonian tell us.
