Separation & Tectonic Plates
Nothing is more important to speciation than separation. There are many ways to be physically and reproductively isolated, but one of the easiest is to be on different continents. The movement of the continents has created the isolation needed to form species. Minute Earth shows us how the tectonic plates move.
So how do birds, who can fly across almost all boundaries, get separated long enough to form a new species? The LabOfOrnithology shows how we came to have over 10,000 species of birds today.
