Bacteria and Viruses aren't all about disease, but that's the exciting part. We as humans have many of our viruses relatively under control (with vaccines), but if we don't stay vigilant they can come back.
Even with proper vaccination viruses that mutate can get around our defenses. The regular old Flu is actually one of the deadliest diseases of all time. The Flu of 1918 was particularly bad.
