Long before the internet came on the scene, Carl Linnaeus had to classify a huge number of organisms quickly. How he tackled the problem remains relevant today.
One way we manage data is by classifying things into different size groups. This has changed a lot in recent years to accommodate our better understanding of how related (or unrelated) organisms are.
