It's Bananas

You'll find that I use this blog to post about topics that are related to what we are learning, but sometimes a news events occurs that I choose to address in class. Believe it or not Bananas are in the news. Before we dive in, let's take a look at the long and complex history of the fruit.

So why are bananas in the news, well a terrible fungal disease (TR4) has been slowly destroying bananas around the world.

The bananas we grow are mostly clones which makes them weaker to diseases. As it turns out most of the fungi that are now hurting bananas are also clones.

It's not just bananas that are facing extinction, many of our food crops have diseases that threaten our ability to grow them.
