Mass Extinctions & Toktaalik

Mass Extinctions are rare event that have the potential to redirect the course of life on the planet. The extinction of the dinosaurs paved the way for the mammals (like us). It's Okay to be Smart reviews the 5 major mass extinctions of the past, and why we're probably in the 6th right now.

When we finish reviewing CH 8-2 please read about Tiktaalik rosae. This is an important transitional (gap filling) fossil for the evolution of land animals. Neil Shubin spent several summers in the Arctic looking for it, here's a brief video of its discovery.
